Media Fluency

Media fluency is very important and can help develop students understanding and usage of the media. Students can identify misinformation and bias when it comes to the media. I know the slogan for the past few years has been “Fake News” (Daunic, 2019). However, not everything placed in the media is fake news. This will give students the opportunity to figure out what is real and what is not. They can use the media to brainstorm ideas and look up various important facts. They can use what they find and discuss it in a classroom setting. This will allow them to broaden their horizon on a certain topic.

“Teaching media fluency skills is crucial to the educational environment as technology continues to reshape how students think and react to digital media and the message they receive” (How to teach media fluency skills: 6 cool concepts to try, 2020).  Teaching media fluency should not be taking lighting and it is imperative that it is included in the educational setting. Students need to know how to access the media and use it to their advantage in a positive way. By doing this, students will learn how the media effects their society and how it can ultimately change the views and opinions of people.
